What is the best method of preserving a velvet sofa when moving across the country?

My next monthly move is and I am scared that my new sectional may get either stained or hooked up in the truck. My friend recommended a thick drop cloth wrap to put around the plastic wrap, so the moisture would not collect and provided an extra layer of cushioning. I looked at abodelook and they do have a few heavy-duty options which are the best. Has anybody used their textiles to cover furniture? I desire something breathable and tough to take a move.
